Ramsar Convention on Wetlands COP 11

It’s the year of Tourism for the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, appropriately enough, and the recent 11th Conference of the Parties saw continued discussion on listed wetlands the world over.

Reports etc. from the proceedings of the 11th Conference of the Parties can be downloaded here: http://bit.ly/NBaiTh

If you take a look at The status of sites on the List of Wetlands of International

Importance you’ll see that the Coorong and Lower Lakes are listed under “Ramsar Sites with reports of human-induced negative changes having  occurred, occurring or likely to occur” (page 12)

Here’s a link to Australia’s “National Report on the Implementation of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands” submitted to the secretariat prior to the conference. Which shows how Australia is taking steps to implement the convention, and updates on the progress since 2008 (the 10th COP). Keep in mind this report was written last year and so does not contain up-to-date references for the Murray Darling Basin Plan… but it is well worth reading.
