About

In 2009 the Milang & District Community Association Inc. showed the initiative to provide a facility to help the community to cope with the effects of the ongoing drought.

The Lakes Hubs were established to assist with the dissemination of information and provide collaborative links between Government and local communities.

The lakes Hub provides a conduit for consultation between government and community members to become involved in environmental restoration projects in the region.

The Lakes Hub also coordinates and assists the Community Nurseries Network—a group of commercial nurseries within the Coorong and Lower Lakes region that are working to propagate and provide the native species required for the South Australian Government’s Coorong Lower Lakes Restoration Project.

This project is believed to be one of the largest restoration projects of its kind in the world

In 2012 the project will require 350,000 plants of 130 different local native species to be propagated by the Community Nurseries Network.

The Lakes Hub is an initiative of the Milang and District Community Association Inc. and is part of the South Australian Government’s Murray Futures program, funded by the Australian Government’s Water for the Future initiative.
