Celebrating NAIDOC Week

Picture1Andrew Dawes, Lakes Hub Information and Administration Officer attended the flag raising ceremony  and celebrations  for NAIDOC  Week at Meningie  on Monday.

Rita Lindsay Jnr. & Michael Lindsay sang “Pinyin Ngarrindjerar” (The Ngarrindjeri people are coming) .  Rita was playing a “Planggi”- possum skin drum and Michael the “Tartengk”-clapping sticks. Rita and Michael  also sang  “Amazing Grace”  in Ngarrindjeri.

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
