27th May to 3rd of June is National Reconciliation Week and the Lakes Hub want to help celebrate and highlight the importance of this important event. In particular we would like to recognise the Ngarrindjeri people:

“The Ngarrindjeri people are the descendants of the original indigenous inhabitants of the lands and waters of the Murray River, Lower Lakes and Coorong and adjacent areas. Ngarrindjeri have occupied, enjoyed, utilised and managed these traditional homelands since time immemorial.”

This acknowledgement is in the Kunan Ngarrindjeri Yunnan Agreement (KNYA); Listening to Ngarrindjeri People talking KNYA Taskforce Report 2010-11 which aims to ‘enable Ngarrindjeri cultural values to become integral to all planning and future management arrangements for the land and water – assuring active Ngarrindjeri participation in caring for the region’. This report is a fantastic resource and important for all working in the region, full report is available at www.environment.sa.gov.au/cllmm

Best Wishes and enjoy the sunshine!
Amelia
